Knox Box Program

What Is a Knox Box?

A Knox Box is a secure key box installed on the exterior of a building that allows Riverside Fire & Rescue emergency access when no one is available to provide entry.

Property owners place building access keys inside the box. In some cases, alarm information or emergency contact details may also be included.

Why Should I Have One?

A Knox Box allows firefighters to enter your building quickly during an emergency without forcing doors or windows.

This helps:

  • Reduce property damage

  • Speed emergency response

  • Protect life and property

Many new commercial buildings include Knox Boxes in their design, but they can also be added to existing buildings, gates, or secured access points.

Who Has Access?

Knox master keys are secured inside a locked compartment on fire apparatus and accessed only during emergencies.

Access is electronically tracked, and only Riverside Fire & Rescue personnel can use the key. Each fire jurisdiction maintains its own unique key system. Riverside does not have the ability to duplicate keys or codes.

How Do I Obtain a Knox Box?

Knox Boxes are purchased directly by property owners through the Knox Company website. After purchase, Riverside Fire & Rescue is notified to authorize and document the installation.

If you need help selecting the correct model, please contact us or visit the Knox Company website for guidance.
